Court sends Councilor Mahesh Sharma to 6-day police custody in extortion case
Siliguri remained covered under a dense blanket of fog during the first week of 2026, significantly affecting daily life. From early Saturday morning, thick fog enveloped the city and its surrounding areas, leading to a noticeable dip in temperatures and cold weather conditions.
Weather officials said the impact was not limited to Siliguri alone, as several districts across North Bengal experienced similar foggy conditions. The prolonged presence of fog reduced visibility across the region, creating challenges for commuters and transport operators during the morning hours.
The worst impact was seen on road traffic, with vehicles moving at a very slow pace due to poor visibility. Drivers were forced to keep headlights on even during daytime, causing delays in long-distance bus services and the movement of essential supplies.
